About Qatar
The State of Qatar is an independent sovereign country in the Middle East region. Since its full independence from Britain in 1971, Qatar has emerged as one of the most important oil and gas producers in the world. It is an Islamic country whose laws and customs comply with Islamic law. His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has assumed power in the country since 2013.
In April of 1932, the British Navy decided that Qatar would have a distinctive flag, so it was suggested that the Qatari flag be red, but with nine heads (Qatar is the ninth member of the Trucial Agreement), but Qatar refused to use the red color, and replaced it with its red-purple color, which It is proud and cherished throughout history, and kept the nine heads with the addition of purple-red diamonds to separate each head from the other, and added the name of Qatar in white on a red-purple background.
In 1960, the ruler of Qatar at the time, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani – may God have mercy on him – made a slight change, as he kept the white, red-purple and serrated heads, but without the word Qatar and diamonds. Since then, Qatar has been flying the current flag.
Therefore, the red-purple part of the Qatar flag corresponds to the history of Qatar, its environment and its civilizational dimension, and the Qataris insisted on raising it from this point of view. In 1971, Qatar joined the United Nations, following the abolition of the British protectorate agreement. Qatar’s flag was raised in its two historical colors, red, purple and white.
